Our name, "The Royal Blood", expresses the irony that although menstrual blood comes out of a woman's body without any harm, it is considered to be very impure.
Blood, if it is on a white bedsheet is considered to be a symbol of purity but that same blood during a woman's menstrual cycle is considered to be impure. In India, there are still some places where the female is not allowed to stay at her own home during her monthly visit even if she is newly married and hasn't even seen her husband's face. Being prohibited from places of worship is just a way of life in these places. In rural areas, there is a taboo surrounding menstruation. Women don't know about the care they require during those days of the month, no one knows how to take care of themselves because there is no one to talk to about all these things.
We, the youth need to address these issues and raise awareness about what "menstruation" actually is, about how prone to diseases and infections women really are during this period. We need to reject the taboos surrounding this issue and help to empower these women.
We at "The Royal Blood" aim to be the voice of such women and help them in becoming independent. We aim to achieve our goals not by having rallies and riots because of the sensitivity of the issue but by trying to initiate a social change and by educating the next generation about this issue. With this view in mind "The Royal Blood" is a worthy salutation for the struggles of countless women facing discrimination as well as an ode to the unborn millions to come.
